Joe Buissink and my new found love of imperfections

Yesterday was a good day. Joe Buissink came to town and he held an incredibly inspirational seminar and workshop. Joe was not worried about getting personal about his work and as a listener that’s the kinda thing you sign up for really… It made me think about what I bring into my photography, and it’s given me a few things ponder over for some time to come. One of those things is stop obsessing of technical flaws, I’ve always been stupidly self critical and quite unrelaxed about my picture selection. From now on I’m gonna stop asking myself what’s wrong with the picture, what’s right with it is a much happier way to go – and this is my solemn vow, amen! It’s too easy to stare yourself blind on technical mishaps instead of actually feel the picture. Will definitely start bringing in some blurry pics that I love on a personal level but been scared to put in my portfolio because they’re technically flawed. Woop woop! More flaws to the people! I love imperfection!

We also went down to the city hall to have a go at a few new techniques. There’s a pic with motion blur in my selection and I cropped the model’s feet. Liberation at last… Sigh and release…
